If Al Bonner, 40-year owner of Gene’s Beer Garden in Morgantown, WV, had a dollar for every time someone said that to him about Gene’s, he’d be a millionaire. He’s generally ignored or never got around to addressing all the suggestions over the years. But there have been so many people who have hung around Gene’s since he’s owned it and said, “There needs to be a book about the place.”

Over the past eighty years, there have been too many beers and hot dogs consumed to count. But for all the beers poured and hot dogs prepared, there have been just as many laughs—probably more.
